Students participate in a 1 1/2 hour class learning basic vocal fundamentals and prepare for recording and/or performance. Currently, this class meets once a week at ReadyMix Music recording studio in North Hollywood for 8 weeks, on Sundays from 3pm-4:30pm.
Students learn to sing contemporary songs in a group setting. Various styles are explored, and students learn the differences between singing a solo part and singing in a group. Different styles and genres of songs will be learned.
By enabling kids to sing and rehearse with others, they will develop an understanding of the importance of teamwork. Singing as an ensemble is a great way to experience being part of a “greater group”. It increases self-esteem and provides an opportunity that can open new doors of self-discovery! In essence, singers can experience a sense of empathy with others, which ultimately can translate to a larger, more “compassionate” community.
Vocal Ensemble can increase kids’ confidence to perform in front of others, while broadening their overall knowledge and the possibilities that exist in the study of music, all in a positive, fun and creative environment.
Singers will all learn and sing the lead (or solo parts) and also the background vocals (or harmony parts). Based on the teacher’s assessment, students will learn parts appropriate for their vocal range. Kids trade off solo parts. Everyone gets a chance. Students learn microphone technique, studio technique and the difference between “live” singing and studio singing, how to find harmonies, how to blend with others, and, of course, have fun doing it!
At the end of each eight week session, the group will record a song they have rehearsed. That class will run longer, usually about 2 hours. Since classes are ongoing, students are encouraged to continue working within a group and progress to the next level of musicianship.
Each 8 week session is $395 and includes all materials needed, studio time, etc. If you sign up for more than one program, we offer a 10% discount on the second class.
